Interesting. Our tour definitely had four "stations": the fort, the Powhatan village, the ships, and the museum. We rotated through the 4 sections and the guide has a definite agenda at each location. We were not "running", but there was no time to wander and look at various things other than what she directed us to either. All the school groups I saw were following a similar agenda.

Maybe some schools use guides not through Jamestown? Ours was definitely a Jamestown guide. Maybe there is a more expanded option as well.

This is how ours did it as well. When we left, it was still dark, though we made it back around 6 or 7. I can't remember the name of the tour operator who did ours -- I think he was a retired FCPS teacher who planned the field trips as a part-time retirement job. We were well-paced, didn't feel rushed, and got to see a lot while we were there.

17:00 here. I had a good time, just realize that there will be a bit of a hurry up feel to things while visiting and a lot of downtime on the bus.

I have been before so I didn't feel bad about not seeing things and I told my child we would go back again. She was a toddler the last time we went as a family and was a little frustrated at not being able to see anything other than what the guide showed us. It is definitely a "highlights of Jamestown" vs an in depth visit.
