You can kid yourself all you want, but peel away the layers of excuses and justifications and deflections, and that is what is behind a lot of Trump support. I think OP's husband is smart to keep his distance from his old friend right now if he wants to keep the friendship in the long term. We can deal with the negative aspects of people we care for, but sometimes it's just easier from a distance. Leave it alone, OP. They'll probably see each other some time in the future.

2. If your husband's friend posted his political views on fb, maybe he is very vocal (obnoxiously so?) about it? And your dh knows that they wouldn't be able get together without getting in an argument.

I have some childhood friends who have very different views than I do. We became good friends before politics was even on the radar. When we get together, we don't talk politics at all.

My H is LEO and I agree I would not be hanging with a friend nor would my H that has political BS... All over their FB page.

Many cops have become insufferable recently, like they have a license to violate people's civil right. As a manager (sgt) he has had to deal with do many violations of his staff and internal investigations... and the 80% uptick in hate crimes... Not a good environment.
