OP here. I've never visited them with my son (age 3). I go once a year by myself for 5 days, and my husband takes the week off work to stay home with our son. When I go visit them we never leave the house, they are homebodies and just like to watch TV. It's incredibly boring. I do not feel comfortable driving around there by myself. It's a mountainous area and very confusing.

Get a fucking gps. Your attitude is AWFUL. Just don't go, you are going to be miserable and that will rub off on your kid. I can't be the only one who thinks the grandparents are probably fine but op is the problem here.
