Seriously stop complaining about the "expensive" cost of after care at your public school. We didn't get a spot for PK 3 and are paying almost $30K for pre-school. SO stop complaining. $500 a month is a bargain.

$700/mo is crazy. Does that include Enrichment or is that basic aftercare?

Your new school must be Mundo Verde or Yu Ying. Their prices are outrageous!

How do you find out how much aftercare costs at each school? We are going to be at Barnard this fall and I have not been able to find this online.

At my charter it is $315ish for both before and after. I pay for both, so I don't know what the breakdown is.

Shepherd is like $315 for aftercare only, and $350 for before and aftercare. Didn't realize it's on the higher end, I guess.

Enrichment activities (creative movement/yoga, Zumba/hip hop dance, Lego Robotics, basketball, etc.) are extra, and the choices vary by quarter.

Why do people compare after care with babysitting? Babysitting is 1:1 or 1:2, aftercare is like 1:10 or 1:15. Apples, oranges.

We pay $330 at Oyster and there is a sliding scale (based on family size/income levels.) There are enrichment activities as well that are optional ... some kids opt in, others not. These activities are changed up 3 times in the year.

Very happy with the quality and management. They help the kids with homework, then there is outdoor free play time, and then activities indoors. The counselors nurture my DC to be a better friend, student by modeling positive interaction.

$82.50 per month!! That is ridiculously cheap!! Who is providing the care for that price?

That is incredible. We pay $235/mo at our JKLM for aftercare run by the PTA and staffed by teachers from the school. Enrichment programs (also PTA-sponsored) cost extra, but the aftercare fee is prorated to accommodate the days that your child is doing an enrichment class instead.

Charter aftercare programs can be breathtakingly expensive. We turned down a PK3 spot at a charter last year for our youngest, in part because of the high cost of before/aftercare. When we factored that in, along with the loss of year-round access/day-to-day flexibility, the cost of continuing at our daycare didn't look so bad in comparison.

Some aftercare seems expensive and when you add dancing or gymnastics the price goes up, but your child seems content and the parent relieved that there are fewer activities now to run to on the weekend. On occasion, you feel that the aftercare is more enrichment than the school teaching.
