- not trying to generalize, but for men in some cultures, being "thick" is considered attractive. So some women have no need to stay thin.
- advertising works and it's everywhere.
- crappy fast food is everywhere especially near highways (Cracker Barrel, McDonald's)
- car culture
I could go on but it's sad. We have so much abundance here, but so many poorly informed people.
