Subject: Does FCPS have a dress code for teachers now?
Our custodians mop the classroom floors three times per year. If you think I'm getting down on the floor in a dress or dry clean only clothing, you are deranged.

In which school district do you teach?
22:23 here. I'm in an elementary school. I'm wondering if other teachers in your school have to do the same thing. If so, are you somewhat enabling? If the teachers are buying printer cartridges, staples, and soap then the school doesn't have to.

Principal here: I know that when I was a teacher, I definitely spent my own money, but $1200??? I'd be upset to learn if a teacher at my elementary school was spending that. I'm genuinely curious to know what you're buying. Thanks.

Wow! I believe you, but that is a lot!
I have probably spent less than $100 and ~$80 of that was reimbursed by the PTA. My DW says she has spent maybe $50.

Today I spent 2 hours sitting on the floor in the hallway doing 1:1 assessments. I'm not wearing nice clothes. And WTF is up with the PP believing we don't spend our own money to do our job? I keep track of my receipts and so far this year it has been $970. How is that so hard to believe? My school doesn't have a PTA to provide us with supplies or extras so I provide them myself.

Teachers should wear a nice dress or a tie and dress pants every day. How many teachers are left that still take pride in their appearance when they go to work? Show the kids that it's an important job to be taken seriously. A start would be to dress the part. in fcps??
Are you insane? Have you ever been in elementary school? Teachers need to be able to sit down on the floor, move heavy things around (sometimes children), get marker and paint on their clothes, and on occasion, run. A nice dress and dress pants would limit our ability to do our jobs. Plus, you're on your feet all day, so comfortable shoes, not dress shoes, are a must. Would you prefer teachers look nice, or do their jobs well? We are not decorations.

I remember going to a parent teacher conference in a FCPS elementary school - the one day you'd think they might dress nicely. Teacher was wearing sweatpants and a ratty. 15 year old T-shirt. I could tell it was that old because it had a date on it. At least in the FCPS schools that I saw, teachers often dressed likely they were going to pull weeds.

My children have been attending FCPS for the past 15 years and I don't remember jeans and t-shirts - their teachers were always dressed nicely- country club casual.
