All bathrooms that you posted will be terribly dated in 10 years.

Marble on the other hand is classic and timeless.
But I would opt out of it and use something like quartzite tiles and mosaic, quartzite or neolith for counters.
Marble tends to get 'rusty', which is not a real rust, but minerals coming to a surface. Around toilets it looks like pee.
Besides, marble etches and stains terribly, almost every bathroom product (cleaners, toothpaste, hair dyes, shampoos) are offensive to it. Some people love worn in look, I personally can't stand it.
And sealing it every so often is a pain.


OP, gardenweb bathrooms forum has tons of wisdom. Before you start renovation read, read, read. Better be save than sorry in such a matter as disaster of bathroom reno. Good luck!

The subway tile trend seems to still be going strong. I'm loving this shower design.

As a buyer, I'm not thinking so much as taste as functionality and quality. You can't go wrong doing something classic. But in the end, I'm going to be looking that the fixtures were installed well, waterproofing done correctly, and that the design make sense for the space. Also, you should make sure there's a tub and that the sinks are reachable for kids. (My tall 4 year old still can't wash his hands in our master bath even with a stool because of the dumb design of the vanity!)

I like a classic bathroom that will not look completely dated in a few years. We just added a bathroom and did small tile Marble is a few different patterns. We added a band of glass. Dark espresso vanity. We did a Delta $100 toilet and it works fine. Thought about a Toto but we can easily replace it later on if its an issue.

OP, what's the style/year of your house? I love modern bathrooms, but in our 1920s home we put in a black and white deco inspired bathroom. Merola blck/white tile in on floor, white subway tile in shower with blk/white greek key mosaic glass tiles, a vanity with quartz/carrara top and 1920s styling, white framed mirror, art deco style ceiling light and scones. Poppy color rug gave it some color. It was actually really easy to plan.

I recommend Houzz for getting your style, print pictures of what you like. then go to a good tile store to help you out.

I'm not the previous poster but our home is a center hall colonial. Those bathrooms would look ridiculous in our home.

This is almost exactly what we are doing for an upcoming renovation, except that the bathroom has a tub and walls will be pale gray-blue. We are using a white vanity with a white quartz top.
