Hah! Thanks for more input! My husband only uses a desktop (it's all all-in-one type PC) and the kids will often crowd his desk to look stuff up or watch something w/a larger screen than a tablet. I love my laptop to the point of addiction, but there is something wonderful about working on a larger screen.

It doesn't matter what laptop you get. Windows will make it unusable in 3 years. You can get a decent workhorse laptop for $250 and replace in 3 years.

In 18 months, your computer will be outdated and you would probably have to spend money to update the programs.
