Update op?

I would cancel your plans for the evening. I wouldn't ask my mother or MIL to babysit when the weather is bad and they may have difficulties driving. That would be extremely selfish.

Do you know that OP's MIL lives alone? It's also possible the MIL has obligations that require her to return home. As for the rest, I'm LMAO

We were just assuming we would call it off, but she is insisting on coming anyway. She typically doesn't seem to worry about these weather events, but I want her to be safe.

This has to be one of the more refreshing posts I have seen on DCUM in a while.

A mother in law that wants to help and you all are more concerned about her safety than having to be inconvenienced by her inability to help out because of the weather.

I agree with other posters - if you are okay with her getting snowed in and she is okay with it, have her come and make up the guest room. Could be a nice family day in with board games and hot chocolate on Tuesday.

However, if you don't want her getting snowed in or she doesn't want to get snowed in, put your foot down.

But, by all means - make it known that if the weather is really bad, you are NOT going to let her try and drive home!

Where are you going that you need her to babysit?

Just say your event you're going to is cancelled (and it probably will be). Problem solved.
