Hubby visiting on weekends is the rub, as you don't want any place that will take half a day to reach. Also, depends on whether the "sand" you want is ocean sand or if you're OK with Chesapeake Bay and tributaries sand. The closest sand is on the Western Shore of the Bay, generally from Annapolis on south -- no Bay Bridge to contend with.

This is absolutely correct. They will run higher than DE/MD/VA/OBX, though.

OP never gave a budget. They do rent smaller places though if that's an issue.

This is absolutely correct. They will run higher than DE/MD/VA/OBX, though.

We have a place in Rehoboth and in summer we leave MD suburbs on a Friday around 8:30/9 pm and leave Monday morning at 6 am and easily get to work in Silver Spring by 8:30 in the morning. I'm ready for bed by 8 PM that night but it's worth it. Everything is open late so we can hit the sushi bar Friday night for food and drinks. Other times delivery or pick up on our way in.

We did this one summer (DH flew back & forth) and loved it. Great summer.

I prefer Fenwick because it doesn't have high rise's (like Rehobeth), very little public parking so the beaches are NEVER crowded. Everything is also very walkable so once we get there we get in the car maybe once while we are there (for the entire week). You can't do that in OBX. IMO it has the best of all worlds (including a little water park, light house, mini golf, shopping, etc).

You are a moron. I bought in OBX because I prefer it over DE/MD beaches. I could easily afford a house in Bethany or Rehobeth. Just have about zero desire to go there.

To me the drive isn't a big deal. I have gone to Rehobeth plenty of time with friends and it is closer but not enough to make me want to buy there over OBX.

I love how people try to use mileage as the only indicator of time it takes to get somewhere.

OP said for the weekends. If her DH leaves early Saturday morning he would be there in the 2.5-3 hours timeframe resulting in a more enjoyable weekend. Leaving Friday evening from DC going anywhere would take forever, he would only get there in time to go to sleep anyways. I'd have DH sleep in his bed, get up a bit early and join the family first thing Saturday morning while traffic is very light.

NP here. OBX sux - it is way further than people claim it is. But I don't think a Sea Colony condo is exactly living large.

Too far.

I'd do one of the DE beaches. You want to avoid 95 as much as possible. If he can come late on Fridays or VERY early Saturday mornings, those are the easiest to get too. The OBX is great and all, but not for weekend trips. It's a longer drive and Saturday mornings getting down there is HELL. He'd have to leave here around 4am.

I'd maybe look into a condo in Ocean city, MD too. That way you can have a pool and stay closer to the beach. It's much busier in general though, with more crowded beaches.
