LBI is another good option. Lots of great NJ beach towns.

NJ beaches are beautiful! I had no idea, I took too many people's word, who had never visited, but I'm glad I saw for myself.
This is absolutely correct. They will run higher than DE/MD/VA/OBX, though.

OBX is way too far. I like it there but it's a 5 hour drive in the middle of the night.
Not really, from fairfax, OBX is only about 45 to hour further than Bethany or Rehobeth.
We've got another one here trying to rationalize their decision to buy a beach house nearly 300 miles from their home -- when they would have preferred to buy in close-in Delaware but couldn't afford it.

Depends on where around the beltway.
OP said she wants her husband to visit in weekends I think OBX would be easier on Thursday or Friday night than dealing with the bay bridge and traffic lights, intersections all the way out to the MD DE beaches.
OP said for the weekends. If her DH leaves early Saturday morning he would be there in the 2.5-3 hours timeframe resulting in a more enjoyable weekend. Leaving Friday evening from DC going anywhere would take forever, he would only get there in time to go to sleep anyways. I'd have DH sleep in his bed, get up a bit early and join the family first thing Saturday morning while traffic is very light.
