SWWFS is making strong gains in lower elementary, and every year gets a little better. We were there for three years and only left b/c we moved or of D.C.
Middle school the culture is a bit different...as parents are not as involved. It's almost entirely OOB students. That said there is every reason to be optimistic that the upper elementary and middle will get there by the time your 5 year old is ready for middle.
And it should be noted that while the principal is the same for the high school, the day to day running of the school falls to the very capable assistant principals.
To answer your question, Thomson and Ross are co-zone for SWWFS and Cardozo.

Our experience couldn't be more different from PP. School much improved over past couple of years. Couple of mediocre teachers remain but majority are great. Highly motivated. Good kids.

Limited because our kid is in Elementary, but we haven't heard a single parent happy with the MS. It is badly managed, teachers not held accountable - apparently they never even report or mark grades.
Just avoid.

Here's the thing about SWWFS.
It's tiny (50 students per grade). It can't afford a lot programming bells and whistles. If it remains academically focussed - and attracts students who prefer that - then it stands a good chance of turning out students who can get into one of DC's test-in schools.
Without cheating or undue influence.
