This is sincerely mind blowing to me. I also believe you are way in the minority because not once in my life have I seen a 7 year old boy using a public women's restroom. I'm curious how long you plan to do this? What's the cut off?

I'm curious too. I'll take your "too bad" and raise you one - once they can independently use the bathroom, they are all set to use the men's room. Your caution does not match the likely danger level of the scenario.

No they aren't and things happen in bathrooms. I take my 7 year old in and am not at all concerned about what others think.

Please enlighten us with what happens in the men's bathroom at movie theater during a matinee. I am honestly curious.

I continually get surprised at the level of hovering other parents do. I also have an 8 year old daughter and she rides public transportation alone.

How sad you are too lazy to take your child where she needs to be. 8 is way to young.

My daughter bikes up to the playground about 1/4 mile away with her friends. They are all 7 and 8.

Most 8 year olds ride public transportation alone in cities when they have to go to school.

The reason you think your 8yr old is too young is because you have coddled her all her life and have not taught her to think and do things for herself in small increments until she is comfortable.

My daughter went on a Field trip today. 1 teacher and 1 volunteer for 26 kids. Do your forbid your 8yr old to go on field trips?

I'm guessing your logic is that he could be approached by an unknown male in an unwanted way.

By the time he hits puberty (not terribly far off for an 8 year old), you really can't be doing what you're doing anymore and he could still be approached by an unknown male. The better path might be to talk to him about what to do if this happens and how to handle it. If you really can't deal, stand outside the door after he goes in and call out to him and ask him if he's alone or not. If he's not alone, the other male in the restroom will hear your voice and know you are outside. I've seen moms do this.

This is why I would not let my child go with you. Its not the kids I am worry about but who else is there. If you are not willing to supervise the kids properly and 8 is still very young, you need to have more adults or let the parents come.

Oh my gosh, do you even have a 8 yr old child??? If you do, then you would realize that they are completly self sufficient and are able to use the bathroom without "mommy's help". Gimme a break.

It simply said "movie and lunch at XYZ Theater. This is a drop off event".

Simple.

By 8 yrs old, people know it's a drop off event.

OP, I think you should word it as others have advised, and then I would also set your invite response to only allow for a maximum of 1 guest. It sounds like a fun party that you have organized well.

For the PP who would like to intrude on the party - it sounds like the OP has it well covered. If your child is ever invited to an event like that, you should really decline or else find something else to do while your child is at a party. Sticking around to monitor a big kids' party because you aren't sure they would do it like you would do it if you were in charge is unnecessary. I bet that wherever there's a movie theater, there are plenty of other options.
