At 3.5, you don't always know if a child is typically developing. A stranger on the street certainly wouldn't know and even the parents might not know. My child didn't toilet train until close to 4 and had frequent accidents when 5. No diagnosis at that time. At 6, diagnosed with autism. So you just don't know.

My DS trained at 2.5 but is extremely tall (99th%) and a full head taller than most kids his age. It was astounding how many complete strangers felt the need to make a comment about him still being in diapers when he was well under two-years-old because they assumed he was over three.

Yes, it is a parental failing and nothing more. We really screwed up on this in not training him earlier. Now that he is 3 years and 4 months, he is simply defiant and has no problem walking around in wet pants.

I'm surprised the preschool teachers will change the diapers. Have you tried BIG rewards? No sticker chart, but buy a desired toy and waggle it in front of his face and say he can have it if he keeps his pants dry all day. Double up on the chocolate for peeing in the potty.

HUGE reward that he can actually see - this is something he actually cried about when Santa didn't bring it. We bought it and it is still in the box in the front hall. And my kid doesn't like candy.

The preschool teachers would rather change a diaper than pants, underwear and the floor. He refuses to use the toilet at preschool.

Well if you're using the pull up as a diaper there is no difference, is it? ,

Mine is a little over 3.5 and not trained but we are working on it. He has some special needs though. If you didn't know him, depending on the day it may or may not be obvious. I would never judge another mom for not having a kid trained by such and such a time. We are hoping he will be trained by 4 but not counting on it.

Mine both fully trained at 3.5 - both daytime and night time.

I'd say 3.5y daytime. DD was potty trained by 2.5y for day but still wears pull ups at night (just turned 3). I'd feel very weirded out to be honest like PP if I was still changing her diapers during the day given her age.
