fed lawyer. my office is full of incredibly smart, supportive people working together on interesting and important issues. they respect my judgment and skills a great deal, and I respect theirs. as a fed workplace, it is as family friendly as a litigation job can be.

there are obviously frustrations (re bureaucracy, stupid agency decisions, etc) but I am well aware how blessed I am in general

Civil legal services attorney for 10 years in a general practice. Mostly housing law, but an assortment of other issues too. I love the variety.

I love my job (not every day, there's bad days). It's a combination of things: I'm trusted and respected, I'm good at what I do, I enjoy working with my peers, I love my industry which translates to I love working in it and talking about it.

I am an outreach worker at a homeless shelter. It's challenging, I meet all sorts of interesting people, and no two days are the same.

I'm in my fifties, I'm an academic and I've plateaued. I am bored with the courses I teach, the students I teach, and the responsibilities I have. The only way to move up is to take another job elsewhere, but we're a two career family, and our kids are in college and need the tuition waiver. My husband feels similarly plateaud in his govt job. I think maybe this is typical -- you get sort of stuck. It's impossible to move, and you find yourself counting down to retirement. Kind of the way the kids become really annoying in their teens so you're glad to see them go to college. Your job becomes shitty so you look forward to retirement. Sorry to be so cynical. I'm at a conference and I've been drinking.

Interfaith Minister/Hospice Chaplain. I love my job. I work with the kindest, most compassionate people on the planet. There is more laughter and joy in a Hospice center than most people expect. I love ministering to those preparing to leave this world, and to their families and friends. I meet people at the very end of their lives yet get to know them on such a deep, personal level. Their life stories are often so amazing. I know that I am really, really lucky and I'm grateful.

I work in market research and love my job! I enjoy research, feel good about the products I'm supporting, and like most of the teams I support. There's the occasional work-place annoyance but I just remind myself that there's a reason they pay me - to have a good attitude and put up with the 5% I could do without.

I work with university students. They are so full of hope and expectation while being the most jaded creatures on earth. They are hilarious. And I love working with them. I also get to help them navigate college--which is fun.

I am an Executive Director at a small nonprofit. I love my staff, love the mission of my organization, feel like I'm doing good in this world.

Some days are very difficult, and my hourly pay is really small for what I do, but overall I'm happy.

My job (preschool teaching) is one I go back and forth between wanting to quit each year and wanting to keep for the next 50 years. The kid part would keep me there for the next half-century; it's everything else that makes me want to leave each year!
