Sorry. What's your plan B?
He was accepted to a catholic private.>>

I am sure this is not a case. I believe the school wants to screen out students who have private school options.
Students are interviewed separately from parents, and I am sure the SWW crew will pay tricks to have them disclose if they applied and the outcomes of applications.
I think I will not let my son know of the outcome of our three applications in private schools.
You child is going to be a freshman in high school and you don't trust him with this information? And to communicate it appropriately?
SWW will want to hear that SWW is your child's first choice and why. If it isn't he should be honest and explain why.
My son would rather go to the private schools we applied to if admitted with the financial assistance we applied to. I cannot blame him since his only first-hand contact with SWW was at the boring and uninspiring open house of January. I am sure he will be honest (not yet able to be untruthful) , but what he will say will not please the panel. That's not a great starting point for a motivational interview. Hopefully his grades and test results will compensate.
I am indeed concerned, in general, and given the timing of the private schools admission news.

The system is not meant to make it easy to apply to multiple DCPS application schools. Just like the charters and OOB lottery people used to hold multiple acceptances so they moved it to the lottery platform.
I think each school would prefer that you only apply to one, but obviously they can't stop you.
March 31 is just around the corner though. Good luck.
Doesn't this just mean that you should rank in order of true preference? Same with feeder path and sibling preference? You have to rank your #1 as your number 1.

My son also applied to Ellington and I just found out that if they are not listed as his first choice, then he will not be matched if he is accepted. I have not had to use the lottery system for 3 years and this is the first for high school.
YES. Our child had the same problem. If you rank Ellington before SWW AND he gets into Ellington, he will be dropped to the very bottom of the SWW list even if he would have otherwise been admitted, i.e., he will never get in. Same thing if he ranks Walls before Ellington. Unfortunately, prospective students can't shadow at SWW until they are admitted, so your son will have to rank his choices without having had that experience.
