We are far WOTP in the Palisades. DS is in Spanish-only day care (we speak English at home). We'd like to keep up the Spanish, but are looking for a public option with recess. We have a nanny for DD, so commute is only really an issue insofar as it would be tough for the kids to be in the car so much each day. DH would like to keep DS at home next year with the nanny, before trying for our IB PK4 (Key). I'd like to see where we can get in before making a decision. What do you think of the below list? Thank you!

Because, if not, I'd move it way up. Why on earth would you commute all the way to 2R Young or Logan or ITS (do you work near there???) if you could go basically next door instead? I'd totally get it if you were looking to lock in 2R through MS, but for PK? Seems crazy to me. The folks I know are really happy at AP LP and it's practically a neighborhood school insofar as virtually everyone there is zoned for Brent, Maury, Watkins or Miner, which is a plus in my mind.
We are at ITS and Love it but I agree if you're planning on going Maury long term, I'd definitely move AT to #2. Why commute if you don't have to?
+1 -- this is what Appletree is for. Why put those other schools higher if you don't plan to stay there?
Maybe she doesn't want her child to be subjected to the academically focused curriculum and disciplinarianism at Appletree? I get that you all chafe at the idea of someone who isn't going to stay at a school taking a spot, but OP needs to do what is best for her kid. That said, commute is an important factor to consider.
SHe already has Appletree on her list. It that were the case she wouldn't list them. We're just saying move them up.
She has AT at the very end as a safety, as do many people. You are telling her to move it up because you don't want her to compete for a spot at a more desirable school. As the other PP said, the other schools offer many advantages, such as outdoor space, which is pretty important for ECE.
No. I don't care where she goes or for how long. It's totally her perogative. I was saying it would suck to make a long commute for a short term school whentherr is a widely acceptable one walking distance.
Ok, not you, but the PP who told her to pay for private did. Lots of self-interested advice as soon as someone says they won't stay beyond PK.

Then pay for preschool or stay with a nanny. It's optional, it's school, not free babysitting.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:You have zero chance of getting into Peabody. Otherwise, good list. Location-wise, you might want to put Ludlow-Taylor above JO. When you take off Peabody you might want to put Miner or Payne.
Keep Peabody on your list. Random things happen.
I once didn't apply to Brent as an OOB for K, then watched a whole bunch of peers get in.
