I'm not aware of any preference for Nauck neighborhood residents in the Montessori lottery. None was stated when we applied, but we did wind up with a high waitlist number, so I guess it's possible.

Did you do pre k Montessori at Drew? The preference works like this - as I understand it.
You get guaranteed admission to Montessori in k, if you do pre k Montessori at Drew. So, if that is your zoned pre-k, you would have much higher likelihood of getting into Montessori at Drew, putting those living nearby at an advantage.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
PP here. As I understand it, the Drew Montessori is a county-wide program. The only lottery preference that I know of is based on income, not address. Once in the Drew Montessori, you're guaranteed admission to APS Montessori (or Drew Montessori?) going forward into elementary. You are also preferred for Drew elementary (not pre-K) Montessori if you live in Nauck and have prior Montessori experience.
I think the neighborhood pre-K thing is VPI, which is different and I don't know anything about that program. I may not know much about the Montessori program either, who knows. But my child is currently in the Drew Montessori pre-K program and the above is what I remember being told when we applied for the lottery.

No, I am not in agreement, but apparently everyone thinks they know better than someone actually living in Nauck who just registered her kid for school.
What a crazy policy. One neighborhood is zoned to two neighborhood schools, and has guaranteed admittance to two different choice programs? So yes, you're cool for this year but I would not expect anyone living in Nauck to have the same options they do now for the following year.
Yeah, I agree it is crazy. I am not sure what the policy is, but I think it has something to do with the traditional class at Drew being so small due to the Montessori program. I expect it to change once they move the Montessori to Henry.
I think Nauck only has guaranteed admission to one choice program though. They don't have guaranteed admission to the Montessori program if that is what you are thinking. At least not as far as I know!
That is what I'm thinking. Maybe not guaranteed, but they do have preference in the lottery. At least, they have preference for the Pre-K Montessori program, and then those kids have guaranteed acceptance into the Montessori ES, right? So it's a more involved preference, but still one based on neighborhood.

If you are zoned for Drew, you do currently get automatic admission to Claremont if you are interested in that.
This is incorrect. Drew is not part of the automatic Claremont cluster admission- https://www.apsva.us/wp-content/uploads/legacy_assets/www/26c4621ab8-25-2.2-enrollment-transfers.pdf
" the Cluster (Abingdon/Hoffman-Boston /Oakridge) for Claremont are guaranteed admission to that school."
If you are in the Drew boundary you have almost no chance of getting into Claremont.
Claremont is really overcrowded. It fills with students from the cluster and siblings.
This does not take into account the map. They have basically drawn lines that make Claremont a neighborhood school. If you just signed up with no issue, it is because they have space this year.
Or because the Staff thought you were submitting an application for the lottery. You would have no issue doing that. It is not the same as being admitted.
