COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (AP) — Hundreds of people lined up early for a town hall with U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz on Thursday evening, many holding signs criticizing the congressman's push to repeal the newly-named Bears Ears National Monument in southern Utah.


The main complaints among the crowd at a high school in a Salt Lake City suburb were that the Republican is not doing what is best for the state's natural resources and that he needs to investigate President Donald Trump's ties to Russia.

Yes, and it's so hypocritical. They would go bananas if we tried to interfere with Wyomingite politics because another state didn't approve of their choices. (DC has more people than Wyoming, but no voting representation.)

And you can tell them that contrary to the views of his young aide, democratic election results apply whether your populace has elected Muriel Bowser or Jason Chaffetz. I think the local laws in Utah and other red states are bat-shit crazy, and the people they've elected are antediluvian wannabe-autocrats. The difference is that Mary Cheh, Phil Mendelsohn, and Eleanor Holmes-Norton aren't attempting to overturn referenda passed in Salt Lake City.

I'm the one with the rat issue. Yes, I know we'd get a quick response from the DC govt, but I want Chaffetz to do it. I like the feeling of getting personalized constituent service from Utah's best.

We have a hoarder living on our street, so I think I'll call Chaffetz about that today, too.

Also, my neighbor's car mirror was torn off yesterday by a passing car. I've encouraged them to call Chaffetz to file the police report, since I'm sure he'll want to be involved.

Oh, and we have a dying tree in the neighborhood that the excellent DC Urban Forestry team COULD take care of, but Chaffetz would probably prefer to handle himself.





Do you seriously call this often to get things done on your street? I can't think of one problem I've ever had with my neighbors in 10 years of being a homeowner.


Good grief, of course not. But if Chaffetz, Rubio, et al., continue to meddle in DC affairs, they will find that I and many other residents have an unlimited number of petty problems for them to solve. They will hear from us every single day until they stop trying to turn DC into their little faux right-wing playground.
