OP, you can proactively block people who you don't want to add you.

I've done this before. I've always blocked everyone in each office I've worked in. This is doable for me, because the offices I've worked in only have like 10-15 people. When coworkers ask if I'm on FB, I just always explain that it's what I've always done. Half of them seem to think it's a good idea and have started doing it themselves.

Yes twice recently! Both people whose kids play on teams with mine, are active on fb, and are friends with other team parents. I take it that they are not interested in being friends or getting to know each other better and I stop pursuing any kind of friendship. nbd but awkward! I would never do such a thing, it's petty. Gives me self awareness though that I not as well liked as I thought I was!

Honestly it has happened to me a number of times, and yes it hurts my feelings.

About a year ago, at the time of my twenty year HS reunion, a classmate tried to friend me. I just ignored it. We were not friends in HS, we have not seen each other since then, why would I friend him?

I am currently ignoring my BIL. He Unfriended me a few years back after I made a joke about DH being my "manny". Now three years later he wants to be friends again. Nope.

Once again, people really need to learn to be honest. I think 7:58 has a valid point, but you would be surprised how often people check if their request is still pending or not.

I would think the ex bf is a loser.

Some people want to keep their friends list to close family and friends only. Nothing wrong with that.

I am a nice, normal person who has had my friend requests ignored many times. Most recently is two moms at my daughter's preschool who I see everyday for drop pff and pickup (and our kids are in the same class). I have invited both moms over for playdates (but it was not reciprocated). Both ignored my friend requests. And this has happened at least 5-10 times before with different moms. Not sure what to make of it.

I had a neighbor with whom we socialize with who rejected my friend request twice. I could tell because when I clicked on her profile (she would comment on pictures of mutual friends) it would say request pending. Then it went back to the ability to add her again. Then I was unable to add her at all (it was grayed out) and my husband was able to and she accepted his request. Honestly it bothered me more than it should have. She was perfectly friendly to me when we saw each other at least one a week and our kids played well together. I couldn't think of anything I had said or done to offend her. It finally resolved when we were planning an event through FB messenger and I asked others in the group to get the information to her since we weren't FB friends. She was added to the thread and saw the conversation and added me. The whole thing was weird.
