Lucky! if you have neighbors that are nice and the kids are nice. One of our neighbor is nice but the wife, not so much-she prefers other ladies that think and behave like her, which is a whole bunch of drinking and very loud conversations. and one of the kid is just a bad influence.
We still try to be nice to them but everytime their kids come around my child, something is broken, stepped on, and someone not treated fairly. And no, other kids who come by has not broken anything or stepped on any bushes or flowers, not even accidently.

Same with us. Tight-knit group of neighbors whose kids have grown up together. We take each others' kids as needed.

We feel lucky that dd's school has been a similar experience - people don't live as close together unfortunately, but the kids started preschool together and there were so many great families that we connected with that we did playtimes with other families where we dropped the child off.

We did drop-off play dates starting at 5 or 6. But honestly, I like most of my daughter's friends' parents, so we usually use their playdates as a chance to get the parents together and drink wine and chat.
