Some critical information: How old are the kids? How many teachers are going? If they are Juniors or Seniors, think about the fact that they are close to graduating and being unsupervised (basically) 24/7. Consider who their friends are, too, and who is likely to influence them. I took trips with no adult supervision at 18 and 19, traveled around the world at 20, also unsupervised. I was mature and independent, though, with pretty good judgment.

"My son tells me everything--literally everything--and he said nobody hooked up or got drunk on his spring break trip to Europe. A few of the seniors drank wine, but nobody got smashed. Then again, it's a co-ed parochial, so most of the girls are uptight prudes. The party girls went on ski trips or to Mexico."

Lots of smoking and alcohol. Smoking in front of the teachers, alcohol consumed when they went to bed at 9 pm sharp. We even went to a club one night and the teachers sat around the corner while we had drinks.

The language exchange programs were also infamous for smoking and drinking.

A different time, eh? Smoking used to be very prevalent among private school students and thankfully no longer.


We had a student smoking lounge at my private HS!
