If I was willing to remarry I would do a backyard wedding, although if you have allergies that might not work. Second choice is a beach wedding. I would never sign the marriage license again though, personally.

Then you would not marry.

Are there kids? I went to a great second wedding recently. They had a sand ceremony where they blended the families together. What I also thought was great was just how it was 'their' personal touches, it wasn't about the wedding, but about each other. They talked about their age difference, the kids and her previous marriage. It was honest and true.

This is my dream wedding reception.

This was my brother's second wedding. It was a really nice reception. I think some of the food was cooked and brought by relatives, or by them before-hand, and some came from restaurants or Costco. He did a playlist in advance for music, I think. All the formal stuff is really just a pain for guests anyway, I think. The one thing I would do is rent chairs for old people to sit down. He didn't have a lot of seating and the old people ended up mostly just sitting around the living room.

2nd marriage for the both of us. we got married at a B&B with only immediate close family (parents, siblings and nieces/nephews). Had a beautiful garden ceremony (about 25 minutes start to finish), an amazing family lunch, and a 3 hour break before the party (reception).

had lots of sex, changed into different outfits and then celebrated with our closest friends (including family, total was under 50 people). Incredible evening had by all - we got to enjoy every moment of it, and we weren't too exhausted to have more sex afterwards too.

This! I honestly don't remember any kind of decorations or centerpieces or photo displays or anything from the weddings I've attended. I only remember if the food was good and the music fun. Yep! I only remember food, drink and dancing. No one cares about the cake, the flowers, bride's dress, or venue. I think it's shitty when hosts cheap out on food, drink or dancing, but then still have a 5k photographer, 1k get away car rental, 1k flowers, etc. Stick to the basics! And by food and drink I don't mean surf and turf with top shelf liquor. Wine and beer is okay.

I'd start with what you love: do you like music? do you like a special cuisine? do you like a special place?

I'm meh about music but my DH loves the beach. We went to a courthouse here (too much trouble to get a marriage license in NC), rented a house at the outer banks, invited people to come, hired a restaurant to drop off food, played iTunes, ate our food, and sat on a deck overlooking the ocean. I thought it was perfect: like a buffet dinner with good friends and family at the beach.

If you have a restaurant you love, I think that's a good pick. Brunch or lunch might be a good choice, less expensive?

If you have a location you love, I'd think about how you can be there.

I like the idea of a Sunday brunch reception. I may do that if I ever remarry.

This is my dream wedding reception.

We had a really good band, open bar and great food.

We hiked for 30 days in Europe and then flew back to the US and went to the courthouse. We later had a small dinner with family. It was exactly what we wanted! My first wedding was pretty nice--beautiful university chapel and reception at historic hotel...and well--I barely remember it and certainly didn't have fun!

Elope to Vegas. Have a great meal afterwards and stay at a fancy hotel. Fly to a great honeymoon destination afterwards.

If it were me...I do the courthouse plus a Sunday brunch at a nice restaurant. Cheaper than dinner reception.

Or a catered backyard BBQ (but not in the summer - too hot). Or casual lunch/brunch at a winery with bus transportation for everyone (small invite list).

We did the courthouse. Still together after 20 years.
