I'm a current St. Andrew's parent, and our DS is doing well there. We didn't apply to the Big 3 schools for him because we live in Potomac and were happy with what St. Andrew's offered. (Although approximately 50% of SAES students live in Potomac 20854, the rest of the student body comes from everywhere in the DMV area, including Frederick, Capitol Hill, and Alexandria.) In some ways, it's easier to do the reverse commute to school like SAES in Potomac than to live out in the burbs and have to drive into a Big 3 in NWDC.
We think our DS could have hacked it at the public school (Churchill), but we liked the idea of a smaller school. We earn enough to pay tuition, and so we sent our DS there.
As for the differences, Bullis does have a much bigger campus than St. Andrew's which seems quite nice.
