Yes, I'm another FCPS parent and it does sound like TJ. TJ is a fine school, OP. And FCPS is a gem.
I have a good previous connection to TJ. It was a great school--still might be. However, there has been a clear effort in FCPS to segregate, which degrades the entire county system. TJ has suffered because the efforts to segregate have been largely only SES lines.
I don't know if it's fair to say that there has been a "clear effort" to segregate. Honestly, it's all the new construction throughout the rest of the county that is pulling UMC/MC people out of the city and, subsequently, those schools. When we first moved here, we really wanted to stay in the city limits but it made no sense with the elevated taxes and older housing stock (we couldn't afford Baker Park). So, we looked out east towards New Market and found what we liked and could afford. There are plenty of others who made a similar choice so schools like Oakdale, Urbana, and even Linganore are facing certain overcrowding (Urbana is in a crisis state already) with even more homes being built everyday.
OP, there are some in this county who think that any school with diversity is immediately bad. Those people, thankfully, are the minority; however, we all end up having the same conversations with them. If you like where you are, stay put. There is really no reason to leave the TJ district. Good kids who are willing to work hard get great educations in FCPS, no matter what school they go to. P.S. - wait until you see the new Frederick High School. Wondering if many will change their tunes about that school when they see what it will have to offer....
