I let my DD read them starting at whatever point in elementary school they appealed to her, which I think was around first or second grade.

Of all of the media and content my kids consume, we put the fewest restrictions on books and are willing to let our kids read things that may be a bit too mature, even if we wouldn't let them watch a movie or show that covered the same subject matter. I'd like them to think of books as a place where they can get away with a little bit more, to keep reading exciting for them. My parents did this inadvertently by not paying attention and I became a great reader; we are doing it deliberately. We encourage the kids to ask questions about anything they find confusing or upsetting and sometimes read the books along with them. Our plan has worked out pretty well and both our 9 and 11 year olds are voracious readers.

I read them all in grade 2 & 3. Grade 4-5 was Sweet Valley High and a few BSC super specials.

My 3rd grader started reading them in 2nd grade. The graphic novels are a pretty easy read for that age as long as they are good readers! Appropriate topics I think.

I am surprised this is in the tweens/teens forum as this is an elementary school series. My DD loved them, especially the graphic novels, surprised people on here find anything objectionable. Wholesome to the extreme.

Glad it's not just me. Some books just aren't for kids. I stopped my 9 year old at the one with the wedding cover. I didn't read it, but I figure if people have reason to be cautious of books with homosexual marriage, then straight ones seem equally as extreme.
