Any new ideas on this, ladies?
I was a teen when this all went down and I remember the years of Menendez Brothers in our vernacular.
Here's what I don't get: their second trial, the one that resulted in a conviction; that judge did not allow in evidence the many neighbors teatimony about possible abuse. Why?
b/c they weren't abused. They were spoiled sociopaths who wanted their inheritance. I think they enjoy the attention b/c they are probably bored in jail. I don't really care enough to watch or go in depth in any re-hashings of the case. Let them rot.
And you know this how? Why not allow all the evidence to be presented (including the neighbors' testimony) & let the jury decide on the validity (or lack thereof) of the abuse theory?
Abuse allegations are only admissible during the trial if the abuse was the reason for the crime AT THAT MOMENT. If, as a result of the boys being molested, they shot their dad during the act of sex, then abuse allegations are allowed to show self defense. That wasn't what happened in this case.
This is what's wrong with our judicial system I do not understand how this type of evidence can be overlooked. I understand that there is this law but I don't agree with how it's applied. I know it's football in more than one state

Even those that thought the boys were scum were actually bawling at the time.
It WAS extremely painful to hear such morbid details.
Does anyone believe the abuse "excuse??"

Sure, on one hand they had golden opportunities that not every person gets.
They were raised in mansions w/maids and all of that.
They also had the opportunity to attend Princeton & UCLA which are fine colleges.
Lyle cheated, got suspended by Princeton.
They committed residential robberies for the adrenaline rush since money was not even an issue.
Worse....
After their parents were murdered they practically dug their own graves by generously spending what $$ their parents had left them.
That wasn't exactly the smartest move on their part, but hey who makes smart decisions at 18 and 21....??!
But on the other hand by all accounts their Father was a tyrant as a Husband, Father and Professional in his field.
He hit & cheated on his wife and may have sexually/physically/mentally abused his sons.
That is the tricky part:
Either they both should of won Academy Awards in '90 for best acting EVER or they endured unimaginable sexual abuse from their Dad at an early age.
Watching them cocky on camera one minute (who can ever remember Erik's smirk when the camera was on his face?) to seeing them cry in distress recalling how their Dad abused them, etc....,well that is a tough watch when they testified.
But no matter what, I still see no logic for them blowing away their Mother, using the pathetic excuse they wanted to put her out of her misery.
Sorry the buck stopped there with me.
If the abuse was true, and dearest mother stood by and failed to protect her children, yeah she deserved it and more.

That was horrifying. I don't blame them for blowing their dad away.

Should it be torn down?
