Girl from my high school got into Harvard. She moved back home after grad school and married a guy we grew up with. She's a low-level local bureaucrat. Her life is pretty normal, don't think Harvard changed her life.

Which Ivy and what was kid's second choice? Was it worth it in the end? I think people create these Great Gatsby dreams but it's not like that for normal kids that get in. My buddy went to Yale, is a super social guy, he literally doesn't have friends from college.

I have no idea. He's only a sophomore, but is loving his time and secured a great internship for the summer.
I guess that's interesting, but I don't think random anecdotes about a friend are particularly useful in determining whether a college is worth it.

Honestly, the rich connected kids at Brown get all those high-status jobs. The upper middle class wannabes become teachers or work normal upper middle class jobs. 120k pays for grad school AND a down payment on an apartment.

Brown< W&M, but in state tuition makes this a closer call. How much will the difference in tuition set you back? If it means DD will need to take out lot more student loans to attend Brown I'd think twice. Otherwise I'd let her go with Brown if that what she wants. It will be a more diverse group of kids, I think. Also the Ivy status still carries a bit more weight with future employers.
