I like them for when I travel for work because they are structured, have a decent amount of pockets inside, I can fit my 13" Macbook perfectly, and if they get ink on them or some other mishap, it's not a fortune to replace. I work in an industry where flash is generally looked down on and MK is the upper limit of what is acceptable.

OP, buy it if you like it! There must be plenty of "basic" people out there because I get compliments all the time.

My MIL got me one 3 years ago before they were so SUPER trendy. It's covered in logos but it's a great bag so I can't bring myself to replace it lol. I may or may not be basic but I am most definitely cheap.

That's Michael Michael Kors. His actual line, the insanely expensive one, is still panache-y. To use a non-word.

I like the fabric MK bags but the straps are thin and start to fray and crack really easily. I've moved on - currently liking my Everlane bag but just got it so we'll see how it holds up.

I completely agree. It's basically what happened in the 90's to Calvin Klein. My understanding is that CK started licensing out for everything--socks, t-shirts, accessories. The brand got very diluted. Quality went down and it was just EVERYWHERE. The brand completely lost its special-ness and reputation. I feel like that's what is happening with MK. I do like some of his dresses and more plain styles of clothing. I can't stand the bags and watches--they just seem cheap to me.
