This is what I don't get. They're taking great joy in the fact that OPs kid is feeling awful. How is that funny? And why do parents hold completely normal infant/young child behavior against their kids forever and ever? Like OP was colicky just to punish them or something. We aren't talking about a teenager that was sneaking out behind their backs who grew up to have a rebel child of their own. We're talking about a sick kid.

Ugh, this sucks OP. I'd be tempted to tell them that things really turned around and baby is sleeping through the night but I'm bad at lying so I would probably just ignore their calls for a while and respond with a neutral "it's fine" when I eventually got around to answering and they asked how things were going. Their behavior is really uncalled for, so I would just create some distance and limit the information I share with them,

"Your grandchild is miserable. Why is that funny to you?"

Call them when the colic is at its worst. Let them hear the screaming over the phone. Put very little effort into trying to talk to them. They'll hang up.

Do this for every nightly bout of colic. If they ever call you, say, "Anything new since yesterday? No? OK, let's talk later. I do enjoy sharing my life with you."

"I'm too tired for your jokes. You may call me again when you are ready to be supportive."

Parents sound like jerks OP. And, to a few of the other op's, jerks don't care so much about feelings.

Say, ha ha, you really showed me. Then, don't answer their calls for a while. Tell them you don't have time to talk to them with such a colicky baby, you know they understand ?

I was a colicky baby but got a dream baby. My parents are seriously resentful of my baby. It pisses them off when my baby goes to bed easily and such. It then pisses me off that they wished ill fortune on me. They keep saying "you'll get yours soon." Who says stuff like that?!? My mom was really upset over my easy pregnancy too since she nearly died having me. I don't get it?! I wish easy pregnancies and easy babies on people.

I'm sorry, OP. I would either deal with it directly by telling them that you are struggling and their comments make you feel bad, or do like another PP said and refuse to give them the ammo.

My son was a difficult baby, and in the throes of the 4-month sleep regression, while we were visiting the ILs, my FIL loved to say, "I think he's easy" every chance he got. His comment was not mean-spirited, just clueless, and it was still annoying to hear in the moment.

Your parents comments are downright hurtful.

Just tell them, "Hey, that was funny the first few times, but now not so much. Do you have any other material?"

If they do it again, just say- "Thanks for the empathy." and move to a different subject or hang up.

I think they just lost access to their grandchild. Colicky babies grow out of it. A shame that they are too dumb to realize they overplayed their hand.

Wow. They're being assholes. Do they think you were being colicky on purpose when you were young?? That's what the "karma" crack makes it sound like.

Just tell them it's not funny anymore, you're sad that they are delighting in your misery and your child's distress, and then get off the phone.
