We had our final appt before we start IVF this month in late November at SGF. We told the Dr that we were going to SE Asia for 3 weeks and he looked it up on CDC and said the info wasn't very good about how high the risk is there, but a good precaution to take would be to go ahead and freeze sperm before we left to avoid any issues completely. If I got Zika while there, we'd just have to wait however many weeks as opposed to 6 months. Ultimately, we didn't have time to freeze before we left and the Dr hadn't seemed THAT concerned. We were pretty vigilant about wearing bug spray and other repellents and have not exhibited any symptoms- no mosquito bites at all. As far as we know from our conversations with the Dr, there is no reason to hold up treatment this month.

It's winter in Florida, too, and there are very few mosquitoes right now.

OP, I get what you are saying, but with IF and treatments, I think the question to ask is: if the worst case scenario happens, will you be okay living with that? I know it sounds hyperbolic but my daughter, a result of a successful FET, has a rare syndrome with long term medical consequences. I am not AMA and I followed all instructions on medications to the T, and I made sure my diet was perfect before and during pregnancy. It turns out that it was a fluke of cell division and all my careful decisions didn't matter when it came to preventing this syndrome. However, when the geneticist reassured me that I did nothing to cause this, I knew she was right because I was so careful and conscientious about how I took care of myself during and after. You need to decide what risks you can live with in terms of family building.

OP, I think the more relevant question is, what part of FL would you be traveling to? My OB approved me to travel to Sarasota last month at about 24 weeks pregnant. We ended up not going, but there was no hesitation on my doctor's part when I asked the question. This pregnancy is from a FET using an embryo created in 2014, but I don't believe either of those factors entered into my doctor's recommendation to me.

If your family is in in Miami or another area of FL that has had confirmed cases of Zika, then you need to examine this issue carefully. A possible first step might be calling infertility clinics that are based where you'd be traveling to in order to see what they are telling their patients.

I do hear what you are saying that Floridians are not bringing their lives to a screeching halt over Zika. However, this is uncharted territory for the medical community, and I don't think an overabundance of caution is completely unwarranted.
