My understanding is that policemen need to carry their firearms with them because leaving them unsecured (for example, in a car) is considered to be more dangerous than carrying them. The issue is not self-defense (or public defense), but rather responsible use and care of a firearm.

No, decidedly I do not. Guns don't belong in schools.

It would be incredibly dangerous for a policeman or woman in uniform to be out without a gun. These days they are targets.

+1. My husband sometimes wore his military uniform if he did not have time or class was during duty hours. I see no issue with it. I would prefer it given the craziness going on.

Not wanting anyone with a gun (no matter how well trained they may be) in a classroom has nothing to do with my intelligence. That you are insulting other people because they see something differently than you does speak to yours though.

No, because I have a thing for men in uniform and there would be no learning taking place.

- if clothing is such a distraction at universities, should student have to abide by a dress code, or perhaps be required to wear a school uniform to attend class?

Why do you say that last part?

I should have said no student out of uniform (i.e., a random student with a permit rather than highly trained public safety or military professional like a PP's child) should be in class with a firearm.

I would say then the school should have a "no uniform" policy. No plumbers, no baseball uniforms, no military, soccer teams - just nothing.

I'm not comfortable seeing the Washington Team uniform, so best not wear in in my collage class.
