DH here - they are avoiding creeps like you.

And seriously, if you truly want to meet someone, try on-line dating and make the effort to write a good profile.

Wow. Harsh. Not this PP. But you sound more like a mom from that area, for sure!

You could buy or rent - a 2BDRM rental is $2,000/mo, which is a little less than 40% of your pay but living there might mean you wouldn't need a car.

Full Description
2 BR, 1 BA available January 1. One year lease then month-to-month (with 2-month termination) thereafter. Rent is $1950/month; includes gas. Newly remodel kitchen with granite countertops, large deck, new windows and new window treatments. Prime location sits off the main street and faces the ravine, pool and the Army/Navy golf course. One pet (under 75 lbs.) is allowed with a $150 non-refundable deposit. Contact Steve Doran at 202-215-1659 or sdgoods1@gmail.com.

I live in West Springfield, but not for any particular "single mom" related reason. I picked it because it has great schools, is convenient to the places I need to be close to (ex, kids' activities, work), and I could afford to buy a 4BR home there.

I would figure out what would make your life easiest (do you have friends/family who could help if you lived close by? do you need a shorter commute? do you want to rent or own?) and target areas that fit that criteria.

You've never been to McLean, have you? If you are a certain age, you know for a fact there are tons of divorced men and women in McLean. Why would this bother you at all? Does it have to do with you?

OP asked about single moms, not just divorced moms. If you are a certain age, you might know that somewhere between 40-50% of single moms have never been married. I'm not sure what your issue is with McLean, but realistically given how expensive it is to live there it is going to have more high and dual-income families than most places, both of which are correlated with low divorce rates.

Clearly you are the one with the McLean issue: GASP! Divorced moms don't live here! Are you effing serious? You need to get out more and stop trying to patrol other people. It's clearly not working for you.

There are divorced moms everywhere, but explain to OP how she's going to get by on $70K with two kids in McLean, where most families make substantially more, and everything costs extra to begin with. I think you need therapy (or to find some divorced gal pals elsewhere to hang out with).

Or your husband. Clearly why the McLean moms are trying, unsuccessfully, to keep the single moms at bay. LOL.

You are really, really odd. And it's not helping PP find an affordable place to live. either.

What can you afford in rent and what are you paying for childcare? There are some less expensive apartment buildings north of Lee Highway in the Courthouse area, but yes, for now I'd consider South Arlington.

Look for older apartment buildings without all the "amenities". They also usually have larger rooms.

Wow, this isn't slanted at all. :sarcasm: Not all divorcees live in those places that are less desirable. Nice try.

So where do you think a single mom making $70K with two kids can get by easily in NoVa? The price of just about all services is higher in more expensive communities.

Except that Fairfax County is above named, it is not all that different.
