Seriously people just do a quick wash. I have boys and even when they pee they lift the toilet seat. Should they not was their hands after touching under the toilet seat? So gross.

So are you touching a separate flusher from the one you touch after you poop and wipe but before you wash your hands? Do you flush with your foot at home? Doubt it. That's why you should wash every time you use the bathroom.

Get a soap that has aloe in it. Or, teach your kids to dry their hands and then put moisturizer on.

Definitely don't switch to hand sanitizers. They are unhealthy and should be reserved for hospitals and health professionals. Kids shouldn't absorb alcohol into the skin every day, multiple times a day. The antibiotic sanitizers are terrible and IMO should be banned entirely. I hate how these products have proliferated because of the paranoias of germaphobes. Soap and water is a much healthier choice.

If your hands are chapped, you're doing it wrong.

I don't know what type of soap you use that's resulting in chapped hands, but you might try changing soaps. In my experience, traditional softsoap is the worst for chapping hands, bar soap is better (I use Ivory), Dial foaming softsoap is slightly better.

Actually, what works best for me is washing my hands in the bathroom, and then going in the kitchen and rewashing my hands with dish detergent (lemon Ajax). I know this sounds weird and you would think that washing hands more frequently would make the problen worse, but I think it strips soap residue off my hands. I used to have terribly chapped hands. They looked like I was wearing gloves and were constantly cracking. Washing with the dish soap has made a huge difference.

In terms of hand lotion I recommend Aveeno, Aquaphor, or Moisturel.

For those who don't think it necessary to wash hands after urinating, would you consider asking your doctor? Your position seems very counterintuitive to me, but I'm no expert. Would you change your behavior based on the advice of the medical expert you've chosen to entrust your family's health to?

I can't honestly believe there are multiple people arguing against washing their hands every time they use the bathroom. Fecal matter travels, your bathroom (and ESPECIALLY public restrooms) is covered in bacteria. I am not a germaphobe by any means...heck, I'm a nurse who contacts body fluids on the regular, but this is not an area to play the "we never do it and aren't sick" card. Just, no. Wash your hands after you poop AND pee!
