Also, I'd be highly skeptical that your son was the one who came up with the idea for everyone to wear black. Sounds like your idea. I'd provide t-shirts or light sabers for everyone- don't make your guests feel obligated to comply with your theme.

DD and DS both have black shirts and pants. You could put feel free to wear your favorite SW shirt, costume, dress in black etc. But put it is optional. We are big into Star Wars and I could see my younger child wanting to wear her storm trooper costume.

That Is silly. If they want to do a Star Wars theme party and he doesn't have a shirt, cheap Star Wars Ts are easy enough to pick up. Or he can wear all black. Or carry a light saber.

Rare is the boy who does not have anything Star Wars.

OP, this is a fun idea. The vast majority of parents are not the crazy fun sucking anti happiness dcum moms.

Most people will have a lot of fun with this theme, especially the kids.

Have some of your own kid's costumes/Star Wars stuff on hand to share if a kid comes without.

And ignore the anti fun crowd here.


Nobody's saying the party plans won't be "fun" - just that it's a PITA.

OP, the best thing to do would include something like this on the invitation: "feel free to wear a star wars shirt! We'll have extras on hand so everyone can join in the fun."

And then buy enough cheap shirts/clothing for all the kids to wear should anyone forget or not have a shirt. The burden of having a fun party should be on you and your son - not on other kids or parents complying with specific requests.

+1. I remember my first black clothing item, a skirt, I was allowed at 16.

I'm fine with my 6 yo wearing black, and she even owns a black darth Vader sweater, but there was a thread on dcum recently in which several people said they won't dress their kids in black.

How many kids? Your son can tell his friends he thinks it would be cool if they all wear black, but don't put it on wh invite.
