46 and text with my friends all of the time. Family too. I also use Messenger and Slack. I don't even think I have email addresses for some of the people I text regularly.

I'm 43 and prefer texting for sure. I might not see an email for hours or a day, or it might get lost in emails from companies (like on this black friday to cyber monday stretch with all this stupid junk mail).

email or FB, I pay for texts over 50 per month so I want it kept free.

47 and love email, will rarely text. My teen and adult kids call me and also rarely text. My DD18 hates all social media and prefers talking on the phone.

39. Text all the time. Rarely email. Love to talk on the phone with a couple of select friends. But text is the preferred communication mode.

I am over 40, and use a combination of e-mail and text. I like e-mail because if something needs to be explained, it can be explained at length. Some people do not check Facebook often, which is why I wouldn't go that route for messages (and some people I know are not on it).

In addition, texts are not guaranteed to go through. I know e-mails can end up in spam.

To the person that doesn't have their friends e-mails, check their Facebook information, it is probably on there.

I prefer to email, I'm old school and am used to texts being expensive

I'm over 40 and most of my communication is via text. Email is for Saks and Nordstrom sales, mostly And for my friends that are younger, like you, OP, I would never expect them to respond to email. I only text younger people. I have teenage children and one of them doesn't even have an email address. It's all text.

36 and I do both. Email and text.

I'm 45 and I text a lot. I do also email some people (especially mixed groups) depending on the person, but I never talk on the phone unless I'm talking to my mother. But even with her we still text significantly more than we voice talk. I also have some weird, outlier friends who prefer FB messenger or Hangouts or only answer messages at certain time of the day. It does sort of bug me to have Android friends when I'm on my laptop and texting via Messenger.

Women with kids who are old enough to text will text, those with young kids don't.

So it's a little opposite... All my 45+ friends text but 30-45 don't.

Every day. Rarely call. Several group text threads on funny topics. We're all early 40s.

If a friend calls, I assume something is urgent or bad news.

not really, my husband always reads everything on my phone. it's pathetic.

I'm in my 50s, and I usually text when I'm "chatting," but I check email just as often as I check texts. The icons are right next to each other on my phone, and both have the red notification number when there is something new. What's so hard about checking email?
