I love my Harris Teeter. The store is super clean and the produce is always fresh.

Every area in the store has staff. I never wait for a cashier.

And the prices are comparable.

I look at all the ads each week to see which store has what I need on sale and often end up at Giant. My local store always looks really dirty for some reason. Pretty sure they haven't mopped the floor in the year and have never cleaned the self check out screens.

Giant is pretty bad. I don't understand why people think Harris Teeter is expensive. They always have great sales and their produce (at the one I shop at) is always very good. Customer service is very good too and they always have enough lines open.

Then the check-outs are usually understaffed AND they don't have any self-check-outs at all. Actually the CVS in that mall doesn't have them either -- was it some kind of requirement by the landlord?

Every time I go to Sangamore Safeway I end up cursing at myself. I do not understand why they are always so incredibly understaffed.

+1 for Burke Centre. The Safeways in Burke are horribly understaffed at the cashier. The Giant is terrific. I can also never find anything at the Safeways!

I used to absolutely despise Giant.

While I still buy most of my dairy and meat at other stores (short pop-in trips), I still do my big weekly shop at Giant. When my husband developed a sudden medical condition, the only time I had to shop was like 8:00 at night on Fridays.

The place is absolutely deserted, most shelves had been restocked, and I had my pick of everything. Even the deli was still open and the staff was friendly and relaxed and helpful, because there was hardly anyone there. Most laid-back staff I had ever seen. I was afraid at first I would be relegated to self-checkout (which I don't like to do when I have a ton of fresh produce, which I do), but there were two or three lines open and baggers there as well.

So, unexpectedly, I really found a time that worked and it is actually a peaceful, quiet hour or so in what have become extremely stressful weeks. So maybe trying a different time of day or night might work?

Right at the entrance, most of the store in our area (Rockville/Potomac/ n.potomac) have it. So convenient, scan, pack right away in your bags the way you like it. Check-out with Cashier or SCO.

In my neighborhood, Giant is WAY better than Safeway, where the lines always take forever because they only have 1 or 2 cashiers working at any given time.

Where I live, Giant is the least expensive compared to Safeway and Harris Teeter.
