Bet the school administration will be lenient.

As they should.

Unexcused absence will be on their record regardless of their leniency. That may hurt these students when applying to colleges and it's about time we stop coddling these teens and realize that actions have consequences.

Agree

I watched the protest, they all just walked, talked, used their phone, and giggled. A few chants. They did however block traffic from people that needed to get to work, put more police (that they also hate and are against) to work to keep them safe, and missed an entire day of school work.

But sure, administration should be lenient.

Peaceful protesting is part of our constitutional rights. The students have the right to assemble in protest.

MCPS Student Code of Conduct Freedom of Assembly

Students have a right to assemble for discussions of issues of importance to them and to demonstrate peacefully. Students have a responsibility to consult with the school principal to determine if the activity will be allowed during the school day, outside the school day, or during lunch, and the type of supervision required. Students also have a responsibility to work cooperatively with staff members, take reasonable steps to ensure that the activity is orderly, and make up missed work.

Kids need to be in the classroom learning. Trump won fairly. Go back to class.

Peaceful public demonstration is a bedrock of our democratic system. America -- love it or leave it, baby.

My kid is in that crowd, and I will be writing him a note saying I approve of his absence. He is devastated by this election and the aftermath and I am proud that he is speaking out.

For the record, he is a magnet student with a weighted GPA well over 4.0. I have zero concerns about college admissions.

Or a kid can write a college essay based on their protest experience and be at least somewhat different from the rest.

A neighbor works there, most of those protesting have nothing to worry about in terms of colleges worrying about the excuse gor their absence.

Let's hope McDonald's doesn't look at it
