OP, you were in the right, the cashier knows part of their job is to move the line. You didn't cut the line at all.

I thought this was going to be a story about someone in the express lines with well over the item count.

People should do what I do, go to an aisle, think for 30 seconds (look at your grocery list, check coupons (digital and/or paper), before entering the checkout line.

Why is it always the men in the supermarkets that act like this?

i would have asked the cashier if she needed me to call the police. he would have shut up.

I had a guy flip me off for leaving my cart in his way at Costco while I was grabbing something off the shelf- Costco, where you have to practice better driving skills than when you are on the highway.... There are just a bunch of self centered nuts out there. Don't worry about the windbag- you did the right thing.

He was an ass. Cashier should have had your back "Sir, I invited her to come through because you had left."

You did nothing wrong, but kudos to you for having the emotional intelligence to just try to pacify him and walk away. Most people wouldn't have risen to the occasion that well.

Cashier runs the show. She invited you to check out, so the assh@le's beef should have been with her, if anyone. Too bad she didn't point out this detail to the guy. He is an irrational jerk, so don't question yourself.
