At my K-8 Catholic school in the '70s there were a few engaging in drinking, drugs and/or sexual experimentation. It was mostly the kids with parents who thought their little angel was completely unaware of such things. Kids are kids no matter what the household income or school attended.

Of course some do, but in the middle of the pack these kids are generally more controlled by active, caring parents. That said, at the richest end, all hell breaks loose.

You think parents at private schools are more active? And caring? Please. Plenty of parents at private schools are active and caring, and then some are too busy with their careers to spend time with their kids. Just like plenty of public school parents are active and caring, while a minority are less so. More money certainly does not necessarily equate to more active and caring.

My DS is in 8th grade and still seems oblivious to everything. My friends DS in 8th grade is a very confident boy, into sports and has started to go to parties with his sports buds - they haveall had their growth spurts, and are built. I would assume they are starting to do stuff with girls (I am not saying sex), but one boy was kissing a girl and someone filmed it. Which is a whole different issue.

My DD is in 8th grade, although we're in SF. Last year, she knew of TWO kids who were actually dating, complete with going on dates places. Boys started asking her out last year, but she and another girl agreed to tell all the boys they were dating each other (neither is gay) and say no to everyone.

I don't think many more of the kids in her grade are dating this year than they were last year. I only know one of the kids who was dating last year, and I think she does things she THINKS make her look mature and grownup. I do not let DD hang out with her one on one.

I had friends doing this in 7th grade but I wasn't. That was around 1995-1996.

There are SOME that do that sort of thing. Always have been.

But MOST do not.

Or born after the cut-off. I know this is a tangent but I am tired of people forgetting that a kid who turns 9 in October of 3rd grade was not reshirted or left back, she went on time.

Meh, I doubt much drinking but fooling around? Sure.

When I was in MS 20ish years ago, those were the prime years to start fooling around and figuring stuff out. Spin the bottle, suck & blow, 7 minutes in heave, etc.

7th graders???? Kids are starting WAY before that now OP. lmao. Try elementary school. By middle school I'm sure its far more, considering puberty is still a thing.
