Yes. You really do.

People have the right to use uptalk and vocal fry, and who am I to say they can't? That said, I can't take anyone seriously who talks like this, because they sound stupid. I once had opposing counsel do this; crushed them at every turn. Don't talk like a baby unless you want to get treated like one.

Of course you don't. But you must know, it makes you sound dumb.

I am a legal secretary and an associate who sits near me talks this way. She's from the OC, and also uses the word "like" way too much. I once counted how many times in one sentence, and it was seven.

I can't stand listening to her talk.

But actually, you have changed your speech habits. No one is born with vocal fry. You have changed your speech habits at some point in your life to "fit in" and now your husband is calling you out on it.

This above poster is saying "try to help it" because you sound....annoying.

Another irritating thing, starting off saying so. EX. I saw you at the park. Where were you headed after ? So I was like going shopping. What did you buy ? So I bought a bag of rocks. Why did you buy a bag of rocks ? So like I could look smarter.

Code-switching is very common. We all change our language and habits to fit in. It may be more important to your wife to talk like the people she works with because, they pay her a salary and hopefully, you will not divorce her over this.

Code-switching is also something one does unconsciously. It's very hard to keep track of all the elements of code and police yourself 24/7. It's an extra burden that is mentally exhausting.

Try and cut her some slack.

up·talk
??p?tôk/
noun
a manner of speaking in which declarative sentences are uttered with rising intonation at the end, as if they were questions.

changing their voices to talk like Kardashians???
