I love the idea. It would be great to schelude mini-vacations, trips to family, fun camps and workshops, etc.

Summer seems a little too long, and Thanksgiving break too short. A few 3 day weekends sprinkled in don't make up for it.

As the parent of older kids (middle and high school) I hate the idea of year round school. My kids need a chance to get summer jobs, sleep away camps, internships and so forth.

It would have been somewhat more convenient for us when they were little but would be limiting now.

I would prefer to have a shorter summer and more breaks throughout the year. Maybe not necessarily year round school, but I think 5-6 weeks off in the summer is more than enough. We have two full time working parents and it is not as if we are able to personally assist with any "brain drain" that happens during the summer because our children have to attend camps with both before and aftercare. We don't live near family so it's not some great time to spend time with family and we certainly don't have jobs where we could take 8 weeks off in a row to cover the summer break. So instead we cobble together 8ish weeks of various camps, maybe a week visit from each grandparent and one week of family vacation. The camps are not generally as convenient as our school location, so we end up having to negotiate flexible hours to accommodate farther flung pick ups and drop offs and in general I find that much time off in a row to be a hassle.

I would be interested in year round school if camps were available during intercessions. We would probably take a vacation during the fall and do camps other times. As it is on the current DCPS calendar we can't really do much traveling (all of our family is an expensive plane ride away so we don't really visit unless we have the week off).
