We have a Wyngate kid and an NB one (who went to Wyngate)

How has your experience been at Wyngate?
Wyngate has been lovely. The community is wonderful and the people are delightful. They have some management issues with lunch and recess and I don't like the way they have multiple grades share a lunch/recess period but besides that, I have very few complaints.

Are the teachers nice?
I can't say that every single teacher at the school is warm and friendly but it is certainly a nice environment filled with people who love kids.

2. Any experience in how many kids go to Barnsley from Wyngate for HGC?
I am not certain of an exact number but it's usually a couple.

3. Is bullying a concern in North Bethesda-MS?
There was one major incident of cyberbullying a couple years ago but from what I hear, it was handled very well. There isn't a lot of bullying but the kids can, of course, be mean but I doubt you will find a middle school where that is not the case. DD once told me that a lot of people are mean to their friends but nice to everyone else, so it's just a matter of making sure your kids have good friends.

1. Is this a neighborhood where many NIH employees (scientists/administrators) live?
I have heard that in the past there were A LOT of NIH families but I do not see an overwhelming amount now. It used to be that kids whose parents worked at NIH could go to Wyngate or Ashburton even if they live out of district but that program ended once the schools started getting so overcrowded.

2. Is there is community feeling?
Wyngate has a really strong community but I do notice a significant divide between Wyngate, Ashburton, and Kensington Parkwood in a way I find interesting. Even now that DD is in 8th, there still seems to be a subtle division between the kids from the different neighborhoods.

Agree that it's not at all true. Almost no one drives a fancy car (unless a Honda Odyssey is suddenly considered fancy). And plenty of people that are dual government or government/non-profit income level.
To answer the PP's questions about SN at Wyngate, I think they're probably pretty good for MCPS. It's basically impossible to get IEPs or services for things like ADHD, SPD, dysgraphia (I think they just don't have the services to give), but they'll give basically whatever accommodations you want. And the teachers are almost all very good, which helps a lot with kids with SN. I think the counselor is also excellent, and the principals is a fair and level-headed guy--again, that all helps with SN kids.

My kids are not at Wynette but I also have an 8th grader at NBMS & she loves it.

No bullying that I’ve heard of & the one incident my daughter had with a boy harassing her, I spoke to the new VP once & I have no idea what he said to this little shit, but it worked!

This kid won’t even look in my daughter’s direction anymore & avoids her at all costs.

We are also thinking of moving to the neighborhood, and our kids would attend Wyngate ES. Does anyone have special needs kids (ADHD, dyslexia) there? How are the services for these kids at Wyngate?
