Maybe I came at a bad time and we've been spoiled by a great daycare program. At this rate, I might just home school!

How could you know what the lesson was and what the role of the worksheet was? You do know that they have a required curriculum with very specific learning goals? Teachers are not allowed to just say, hey kids, let's color all day. Your expectations may be overruling your logic.

See if you can visit the schools you are interested in moving to before you put your house on the market.

If you do decide to move, we really like Flora M. Singer. You should have no problem getting a nice house for your budget.

Not trying to get away from anyone - my kids are Hispanic ( shocker). I want them to be surrounded by kids where learning is being reinforced at home and you don't get as much with kids coming from a lower income home. Not bring racist about it, it's just what it is.

It's amazing -- realtors aren't allowed to answer the question of "where do I move to get away from the Hispanic people" so people come on here for the answer.

I'd try either city of Rockville or maybe Olney.

I don't really understand your budget - but I think the Qunice Orchard cluster is good, as well as parts of the Northwest cluster. Also Richard Montgomery depending on your budget. However, because these are "relatively" affordable areas with decent schools - there is overcrowding in the classroom.

Not sure if you can afford the W areas - only you can answer that. I don't know much about them except people seem to think the schools are very good.

OP, you're right. There is a direct link between wealth and public school quality, because of parent support and financial participation, and school administrations being pushed constantly to do better by said parents.
We overpaid to live in a tiny house just to be in-bounds for a Bethesda-area school... and I don't regret it.

Move to the BCC/Rosemary Hills/NCC Hills school district for the $650,000 house price range. Rock Creek Hills/Kensington (not Town of Kensington) and area around Grubb Road have some houses in that price range. Easy access to redline on both ends and should have Purple Line eventually. Not a fan of North Ch Ch because of it being hemmed in by traffic but that an option too.

I ask because my kids are at a Focus School and are thriving. Small classes, actual differentiation, and a positive school atmosphere. Folks within the community, though, lament losing Title I status because the school offered all sorts of free extracurricular activities with that additional funding that benefited all of the kids.

We haven't yet. He starts K next year. Part of me really wants to try it but hearing from others they make me feel like by going there, I'm ruining my kids future.... I like the small class sizes and extra resources invested. I was more concerned with classes going slower for English language learners and my kid getting lost.

I grew up in an area where kids were bussed in for "diversity" and I saw how much attention the staff spent with those kids. I ended up dropping out of high school in my junior year because I felt like it was a waste of time...

I don't know anyone who sends their kids there so I'm not sure about what people have said about it. I know two families with young kids have gone private but I'm pretty sure they didn't even consider the school.

So YOU dropped out of school but blame it on the kids who stayed in school but were bussed in.
LOVE IT!

I think you have lots of options in your price range..but I would try your school first. Kindergarten is not going to change your child's life regardless of whether it is fantastic or terrible.

Outside of W-schools, BCC, magnets, and privates, you really have no place to move. Yes, some are slightly better than others but the difference is, IMHO, not enough for you to move. It's bad just about everywhere.
