I have 3 kids, just ordered costumes on Amazon, $125 (total)

Kid 1 wants to be the butterfly fairy from Pottery Barn Kids. I couldn't justify the cost so am buying similar pieces from amazon at a fraction of the cost (though if you count MY time researching all of this it would be well over $100). Ugh.

My son is 11, and he announced this morning that he is making his own costume. He made his own last year, and he did a great job. All I had to buy was a sword, a bloody knife, and some makeup.

I ordered from them last year and the costume was so cheap! It was falling apart immediately, my daughter loved it so we were stuck. The Wonder Woman lasso was fraying! It was also tiny. They gave me a partial credit, but still.

Now I did get great accessories from Etsy!

Most of my DS's costume was inexpensive because I'm building it on clothes I got from a consignment shop. But fake fur (for a tail and hat) is more expensive than I thought, so it's ending up costing around $50 for all of the materials and base clothes. Ah well. If it's anything like last year's costume, he'll wear it as dress-up for the rest of the year.

What are they going to be? I don't think I would spend $120, but I am definitely guilty of ordering from one of those expensive catalogs where they sell similar priced costumes.. This year, my kids want to be a witch, a firefighter and Doc McStuffins. My son was a firefighter last year and his costume still fits (score!) so maybe I'll spend around $75/total.

Nothing. My MIL bought a bunch of Melissa & Doug dress up clothes for us 5 years ago and my kids go as one of those every year. We lucked out.

Kids are 6 and 9 and I've spent $20-30 depending on Target sales in the past. This year I will be spending more but each wants to be a character that involves buying actual clothes they can wear again so I don't mind. DD wants a casual dress of a certain color and will wear accessories. DS wants jeans and never has before so he doesn't own any.

Gotta love the parents that spend the money on masks, wands, brooms, swords, etc... They wear them for pics only. Then they declare they are too hot or need to hold their sack of goodies and you hold half their costume all night.

Don't think we've ever spent more than $15 but then I also had to check the date on the OP because we never have a costume picked out the first week of October.

My mom has bought costumes sometimes at consignment but I still don't think those ever cost more than $15.

$56 on older child's costume this year.
Nothing on younger child's costume, who is using #1's costume (which I also lent to another family in between) from 3 years ago, which cost me $42 at the time.

More than I wanted on older child this year, but she was so disappointed in everything else we looked at after we saw her choice costume and #2 will be able to use it, so...

At least this one is reusable as compared to her ladybug with tutu costume from age 3. Not so much a good costume for a boy....
