Oh wow. Jeff should really delete this whole thread. It's gross that anyone would try to appreciate the police while racism exists.

I'm the OP. All I wanted to do was give a little shout-out to the police for their efforts in this massive storm. It doesn't mean I don't realize that a small minority of them are bad - there's been enough press and violence on that. I just feel bad for the vast majority of police who are truly heroes and thought it appropriate to recognize their efforts. But there's so much animosity that it seems one can't even say a kind word about cops without being told, angrily, that there are exceptions. Unreal.

And another where an officer pulled over a young black man because he didn't believe owns property in his neighborhood. This is what drives blacks bonkers and fuels distrust. There are tons of examples of this all over the internet. And when police work the 20-hour shifts to protect lives and property, it's not given acolades because of a bunch of assholes who create disharmony causing many to overlook the good.

I watched this video, and it really angered me. The officer's behavior was unacceptable IMHO.

Remember the viral video of the white cop who was a recent war veteran and he talked down a white guy with a gun who very clearly wanted the cop to shoot him? That cop was able to control his fear...because he was a young, brave veteran who was used to high stress situations and had been trained in deescalation tactics by the military. And perhaps more importantly, he was a new cop who simply hadn't had the chance to develop a fear or bias related to the job.

Honestly, I think the new training should be if you are scared then get back in your car and leave rather than shoot. Maybe the locals will develop a new appreciation for the security police bring if they dial it down a notch and people realize how out of control things get.
