Yep the roads are always cut with weak tropical storm. It usually take a week or two to repair depending on how much of the road is destoried. So yes you should go OP...but bring a boat.

Please don't go. We were just in OBX over the week before Labor Day. If house has a pool and hot tub, you will may have something to do if you don't mind swimming in rain. The beach is scary - our entire week we couldn't go in the water. We were in Avon. The kids were scared of the waves. It was overwhelming seeing the surf.
We left Friday and thank goodness we did. Massive flooding - and that was a tropical storm.
I just wouldn't risk it with a 2 year old. Not worth the effort if you feel like crap. I have been there and last thing you want is a long drive to bad weather.

they're only planning on staying until Tuesday. No point going Monday just to turn around and leave the next day.

Would you rather be bored and blah at home being with the 2 yr old or go to obx with dh and friends and let 2 yr old have fun while letting dh ( and others) watch him?

It's going to be raining so walking on the beach and playing in the sand won't be enjoyable. Monday, the rain stops, but winds are still 30+ mph. I feel like that's also not ideal beach conditions.

Eh, the hurricane is short lived though. Just leave for the beach on Monday or Tuesday. No need to cancel the whole trip for the hurricane that will leave as fast as it comes.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

areas... Mainland Dare... Mainland Hyde... Martin... Outer Banks
Dare... Tyrrell and Washington.

* From Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon

* heavy rain is expected to develop Friday night and continue
into Sunday. This rain falling on wet ground will increase the
risk of flash flooding.

* Poor drainage and low lying urban areas along with locations
near creeks and streams will be most prone to flooding
conditions during this event. High water on area roads may
make them impassable in spots.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
