Here's the latest message:

I am writing to provide you with an update regarding the threats made via social media from the “clown” alias. We have been working closely with the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) to address the matter. We were able to identify the students behind one of the postings. These students have been disciplined in accordance with MCPS policy. MCPD will continue to investigate the other postings related to the “clown” alias.

Today, as a precaution, all physical education classes and lunch recess were held indoors. Tomorrow, we will resume normal school operation. Please encourage your child to report any suspicious activities to school staff. Additionally, MCPD has agreed to be on site throughout the week as added security.

As stated in a previous notification, if you notice anything unusual or have any information, please contact the non-emergency number immediately at (301) 279-8000. In light of this situation, it is recommended that you review safety procedures with your child, advise them to be more observant, and report any suspicious activity.

We got a follow up message from our school saying a student from mcps had been identified and is being dealt with per mcps discipline policies. My kid said he heard who it was (and I don't remember the kid's name nor would I post it even if I did). It was a middle schooler in mcps, allegedly. This is in addition to what's been reported regarding PG county. I haven't seen anything reported regarding the mcps student (who was allegedly involved in the threats to our school).

Received this am in Bethesda. Hadn't heard about it at all before this, so basically I just am feeling lost and want more details.

I got it home from school today as well, from an ES that is unlikely to have been a target just because it's tiny and not really on anyone's radar screen.

Give me an example of a crime where the criminal called the victim ahead of time to warn them that they were about to commit a crime.

It's just an odd situation, especially since it's national. Plus, it conjures up images of the weird clown group living in the woods.

So, no we're not pulling out our kids.

WTOP is reporting that one teen has been arrested and another identified. Hopefully it was just a stupid prank by those kids.

So what if you did or didn't get this message? What would you have done? Would you have rushed to the school and pulled your child out of school? Would you have ignored it like a sane parent?

Give me an example of a crime where the criminal called the victim ahead of time to warn them that they were about to commit a crime.

I just fell into this today while searching for something else on the MCPS site.

I'm in the system and have heard nothing about this.
