OP here, this is honestly, so perfect and helps pull together the last 10 years for me quite well. Thank you all for spelling out the competing truths. Yes, I know I need to get my stuff. Thanks for also validating they are being ridiculous.
Np here. Hugs to you. I'm glad this gem of a post showed up amongst the other ridiculous crap. I'm a fellow military spouse, and this repeated moving is exhausting. It takes a toll, and I'm sorry your parents aren't more supportive.

They are just being honest. They don't like your stuff. You're an adult but you haven't taken responsibility for your stuff. I get it that you had nowhere to put it, but if you are married with kids they probably figure you can handle your own things...but you haven't yet. It's a way for them to still act like you are a baby and they are still the parents.

It's not about the boxes, people. This is not the one sore spot in an otherwise loving relationship. OP's parents are assholes. OP, go get your boxes, or send your parents prepaid shipping labels and then be done with it. More importantly, be done with them. They are NEVER going to be nice and supportive. They are assholes. Dial down the interaction a LOT and you will be happier.

+1 on get rid of it. Save a few mementos if you must. Otherwise, it sounds like it's been a really long time and your parents had to move this crap with them to a new home?
Now, my ILs shipped all these boxes of crap to my husband 2 years after college without giving him the chance to go home and get rid of it himself and we were living in a one bedroom apartment at the time. They just packed everything from his childhood room (and all the "family" items that they didn't want anymore but couldn't bear to get rid of) and shipped it all - down to things like an old cub scout uniform that was his brother's, not his. So I guess be grateful they didn't make you take it into your apartment.
