Fair enough, there is a liberal poster who lives in Washington, DC and has posted 25781 messages since 2007, many but not all in the Political Forum. Also, he is short, chubby, wears glasses, and has brown hair.

I am not really doing any tracking. I have security software that I use to combat abuse. That is not perfect, but does a pretty good job. However, it doesn't track users. I have looked at IP address for much of the day for over 10 years. I can instantly recognize Verizon, Comcast, RCN, etc. addresses because they are so frequently used. If someone has an address from outside those networks, I notice it. If I notice the same address over and over, the user becomes familiar to me.

After the fact -- for instance if I catch someone trolling or sock puppetting, I can frequently get a decent history of their posts, but not always.

The site has never been truly anonymous (i.e., encrypted communications). Jeff has always been able to see the IP addresses of those posting, perhaps even the MAC address for each device (so he can see if someone is traveling in DC one week and Alabama the next week with their same laptop). Frankly, it's smart to do so - if anyone posts illegal content or slanderous information, he can turn over IP addresses if required by a warrant.

For the record: Virginia is also a part of the South.

And, I reside part time in the DC area.
And, the number of posts is over 1600 because you don’t have the posts I have submitted when I have been in the DC area.
