Subject: Location, location, location
Huge factor for us. DD did not want to be too far from home. We looked only at colleges that were within a 4 hour drive from our house. It made things easier. It's also cheaper. No plane fares. And we can visit more easily. No climbing on a plane.

I would love if my child would stay within a few hours drive from us. (Well, under 6 hours)

You have never met my DC. He wilts at 80'. All of his schools are north of here. I think you would find many such students if you lived in NE. They don't tend to hang out in the south.
In the northeast the summers are well above 80. Sounds like the only place for him is the SF bay area

Our oldest wanted to remain on the east coast. Our youngest is open to the midwest, however refused to look at schools in the south.

Same. And, actually, we parents were happy about it when they came to that conclusion. It seems easier to us to hop in the car and drive 5 hours than it is to hop on a plane and fly one hour.
